In observance of the UN International Day Against Gender-Based Violence, a collaborative workshop took place as part of the 16 Days of Activism amid November 25th to December 10th. The event was a joint effort between the District Legal Service Authority, the Cultural Academy for Peace, and the Directorate of Women and Child Development. The inauguration of the program was led by Secretary Justice Renjith Krishnan of the District Legal Service Authority, with the workshop presided over by Ms. Beena Sebastian, Chairperson of the Cultural Academy for Peace.

During the event, Justice Renjith Krishnan highlighted the alarming increase in violence against women, emphasizing that only a fraction of such cases are known to the public. Citing statistics from the Crime Bureau, he noted the frequency of rape and acid attack incidents. Justice Krishnan underscored the importance of safeguarding liberty and equality through proper protection measures. Smt. Tahira Bivi, the District Women Protection Officer, raised awareness about various government laws and initiatives in the workshop. Notable figures such as Mr. Ajay Sarasan, Sub Inspector of Kadavanthra, Dr. K.V. Reethama, President of Mathrivedi International, and Assistant Professor Elizabeth Abraham from St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, also contributed to the event’s success.
