In a remarkable display of unity and support, various women’s organizations came together near the High Court at Vanchi Square to protest and show solidarity for the people of Manipur, who have been grappling with recent riots and unrest. We organised the event with the primary objective of fostering peace in Manipur and putting an end to violence and crimes against women in the region. Drawing a large crowd, the protest and solidarity rally saw enthusiastic participation from students representing different colleges and individuals affiliated with various organizations. The gathering marked a powerful demonstration of empathy and concern for the people of Manipur during these challenging times. Prominent figures, including Justice Leelamani, Vice President of the Human Rights Committee, Beena Sebastian, Chairperson of Cultural Academy for Peace, Saheera M.A from Women’s Forum, and Adv. Sandhya Raju, Director of the Centre for Constitutional Rights Research and Advocacy, addressed the crowd, shedding light on the devastating impact of the Manipur riots, particularly on women. Their speeches highlighted the urgent need to address the dire situation and they condemn the heinous acts of Manipur irrespective of gender. Throughout the event, participants voiced their thoughts, lighting candles, and joining the signature campaign to show their unwavering support for the people of Manipur. The collective spirit of the gathering illuminated the vision for a peaceful and harmonious Manipur, free from violence and discrimination. The determination displayed by the women’s organizations and the wider community present at the event has resonated strongly, calling for immediate action from the government to bring about positive change and justice in Manipur.
